More diseases have affected trees due to poor pruning skills which cause heavy wounds on them and increasing the chances of infection.

Farmers should use tools which have right sharpness and durability.

Making a clean cut

Secateurs; these are used for tipping off lateral branches.

Loppers tool; is used to trim water lateral shoots.

The pruning sawis used to trim big branches. This must be sharp for a clean cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

The tipping pole is to prune branches that are above reach cutting at 34 degree angle.

Motorised pruner trims heavy and big branches.

General rules

Cut a vertical growing branch at an angle of 45 degrees

Straight cut allows water to stay hence causing infections while steep cut lead to big wounds.

Branches must not be cut too far from main stem or too straight from stem. This leads to branch calli which take long to recover.

While trimming heavy branches, make an under cut first and later cut it off to avoid big spit.

Disinfect the tools to prevent disease spread from tree to tree.
