Macadamia is an important crop. The nut is an important fruit because it has beneficial oils that help enhance our health.

Production and processing

Begin in the nursery by selecting required cultivars and graft them to produce quality seedlings. The seedling are then planted in well drained soils across the slope and do proper spacing.

After planting, take care of the trees by applying fertilizer, keep them weed free and water them in the early stages. After establishment, macadamia is adapted to dry conditions but you can irrigate to maintain the production level and keep high quality.

A well managed tree begins producing nuts at around 4 years but good yield starts after year 5. Carry out maturity tests before harvesting. During harvesting, the nuts are harvested into clean bags, weighed and then loaded into clean trailers and transported to the factory.

On reaching the factory, the nuts are de husked, dried to a moisture content of 10% and then taken to a cracking facility where the moisture content is reduced further to 1.5% before cracking and after cracking, the product is vacuum packed and ready for export.

From macadamia processing, we get husks which can be composted and taken back into the field and the shell can be used as fuel.
