Through improved bean planting and cultivation practices more beans can be produced for food and money as beans are important sources of food and income to farmers and families.

Although certified seeds are expensive they easily germinate and improve yields. It is necessary to plant beans in rows after field preparation by cleaning, ploughing and levelling: Plant along contours using several sticks to guide the rope along rows. To maximise yields always follow the recommended application of fertilisers depending on soil type and timely weed plants.

Row planting

Use certified seeds as this improves seed germination, reduces diseases, improves yields and also saves seeds. Also plant beans in rows to reduce erosion, competition for nutrients, facilitates easy identification of pests and diseases and also saves labour. Use a combination of UREA, DAP and chicken manure fertilizers to maximise yields. Weed the field 3 times that is to say 3 weeks after planting and two times every after 2 weeks.
