Spotted seeds are diseased and will bring you a uneven and small yield. Therefore it is good to know how to separate them from healthy seeds.
Only having good and clean seeds will give you a good harvest. It is easy to recognize the difference between spotted seeds and seeds that are attacked by insects. Spotted seeds have spots on their surface and the attacked seeds have holes in it.
Cleaning seed
Spots have hidden germs, so they will cause damages later on. They can‘t be removed by winnowing or seed flotation, because they are as heavy as healthy seeds. Therefore you have to remove them by hand.
Ask your whole family for help. This helps to do the work in a short period of time and is more relaxing and enjoyable. The work is worth it because you get more money for cleaned seed on the market and your own field will improve as well.
Start with a small amount of clean seeds for planting. After getting a good yield out of it you can add more clean seeds to your whole field. You can clean one kilogram of seeds and add it to different parts of the field. If you know harvest them, the following seeds are going to be cleaned more easily by only winnowing. With one kilogram of clean seeds you will get many new clean seeds.
