The fertility of arable soils is on the decrease, many farmers are small scale and can not afford the high cost of fertilizers.
Liquid organic fertilizer can be made from green plants and all you need is a barrel or a big drum and fill it it water and fill it with every nitrogen containing and mineral containing element that you have got.
Making compost tea
After filling the drum with water, you can put materials including but not limited to coffee husks, food scraps, sea weed, grass clippings, weeds, comfrey and chicken manure. The idea is to have as much nutrients as possible into the mix.
Cover the barrel to prevent reproduction of mosquitoes in the stagnant water in the barrel.
Leaves of nitrogen fixing trees like leucaena leave a lot of nitrogen nutrient in the mixture.
After putting the green plants, leave the mixture to stand for at least 2 weeks to allow the materials to decompose and release the nutrients into the water before using the water as a fertilizer.
The more the time left for the materials to decompose before using the extract as a fertilizer, the better.
To apply the compost tea, apply it same way as watering during around the roots or on the leaves of plants.
