As water being the most important problem affecting the production of crops mainly during dry periods, drip irrigation stand a potential solution as it provides efficient use of water, reduce diseases, soil erosion and leaching of minerals.

It is a slow water application directed to the plant.

System installation

First and foremost prepare raised beds, install water pump and tank 1 – 2 metres high for water to drop by gravity. Install the filter which are cleaned once a week, place pressure gauge on main line and connect main line, lay and fix drip lines using bamboo or other available local materials.

Secondly, close drip line by folding the end and fix it. These are flashed once a month to maintain the system. Install mulch after putting system and connect drip line to main line.

Store the system once not in use and recycle the system materials once broken. Finally check not only pressure at end of drip line regularly but also drop flow once a week and transplant seedlings close to drips from drip lines.
