Fish is important to many farmers since it provides food, income and source of proteins to the consumers however there growth is affected by predators hence need proper pond management practices.
Furthermore during feeding the fish in water avoid feeding during rain, very early in the morning, during cold hours and during darkness. Additionally avoid over fertilizing the pond as this may limit light penetration that may limit the growth of natural pond fish feeds.
Managerial practices
Slash grass around the pond regularly to keep the grasses short and also maintain adequate security for the pond by establishing nets around, fences, rearing dogs to keep off intruders. To add on that also protect fish against frogs toad poles, snakes, monitor lizards, tortoises, leeches as these may invade and feed on fish in water thus reducing their water population.
Always clean all inlet and outlet channel off grasses as predators and intruders dont like short grasses thus limiting their entrance into the pond and also increasing the speed of water flow to limit entry of leeches into the pond, similarly remove emergent grasses to prevent frog eggs and toad poles from finding place to attach themselves with in water and then clear water channels to expose water to atmospheric air thus increasing the amount of oxygen in water.
Care for wind
Lastly properly feed the fish well on pellets or powdered feeds however powdered feeds are easily blown off by the winds and care should be taken into consideration when feeding the fish into the ponds, conclusively regularly fertilize the pond to ensure that water is ever with tinge green colour which provides natural feeds for fish and also prevents the fish from being seed clearly by predators.
