Dates are most commonly grown in North Africa and the middle east and these are major sources of incomes to farmers in those areas.

Dates require very high temperatures especially during the ripening stage as is in North Africa and the Middle East but these, like any other crop require water especially during the vegetative growth stage. Irrigation of dates can be by flooding or drip irrigation but drip irrigation is preferred since it leads to high water use efficiency and prevents wastage.

Management practices

To increase water use efficiency, you can have a moisture monitor in the ground to monitor the moisture content in the soil and helps the farmer adjust the irrigation schedule accordingly.
To improve the quality and size of dates produced, you can remove some dates on the cluster at their early stage of growth such that the remaining dates can grow bigger without scratching each other hence being of high quality.
Dates can be grown organically without using pesticides and artificial fertilizers.
