The Date palm is susceptible to many pests but integrated pest management strategies like use of organic pesticides, intercropping and use of light traps can help control the pests.
First, we can use environmentally friendly botanic insecticides. These are made from medicinal plants. When using organic pesticides, ensure to read the label and use it as a guide to mix pesticides and during application, one should wear protective equipment like gloves and the sprayer must first be rinsed with clean water and avoid spraying during windy conditions.
Intercropping
The second method is intercropping where vegetables for examples radish are grown together with palm trees. The vegetables attract natural enemies of the date palm pests hence controlling pest numbers significantly.
Thirdly, we can use light traps where the traps uses solar energy to capture many kinds of insects. The success of this method depends on putting the traps in the right place
