Causes and prevention
There are different causes of flies on poultry farms and some of these include accumulation of droppings, wet patches, food scraps and wet feeds. However, there are several measures that can be implemented to prevent flies on the farm and among these include ensuring proper farm hygiene and avoiding accumulation of chicken dropping. Furthermore, always remove wet litter and put dry litter to avoid dampness as well as removing left over feeds.
Diseases caused
Flies cause various diseases on poultry farms for example clostridium botulinum, this is a bacterial disease that results from fly eggs. Additionally, Salmonella disease, this can affect both birds and human. Lastly, flies also cause chicken fly strike which cause wounds on soft body parts of the bird.
