»As collective irrigation canals deteriorate over time, farmers waste resources and efforts in simple daily tasks. With increasing scarcity and degradation of water quality, farmers must pay attention to improve water use.«

As canals deteriorate overtime, farmers waste resources on daily tasks and with increasing scarcity and degeneration of water quality, farmers need to improve water use.

To start a new group, members should know that working together needs costs hence need to discuss with group the collective works to increase water use efficient. Technologies are easier to access when farmers are in a group.

Group collaboration

For consolidated land, create visible land marks for each one‘s land and formalize collaboration by putting up a company, a local NGO or an association at a later stage. However, start by meeting fellow farmers and listen to each one‘s concern, harmonise crop rotations with group of neighbouring farmers and create a group structure to function effectively.

Similarly, if it is first time to work as a group, seek support from extension officers, local NGOs to establish management and integrate collective farming strategies into similar structure. Continue by agreeing on benefits of voluntary contributions, decision making and conflict resolution among members.

Furthermore, a group must write down and share internal regulation and spell out roles and responsibilities of members and leaders in the group. Document group work and financial assignments.

Finally, agree on budgets by the members on additional assignments and often meet members to build trust in each other and share plans of each
