»You‘ve got honeybees, but how do you get the honey? Here we show you how to harvest and process the honey from your honeybees. «

Bees are kept for the their honey and to get the best out of the bees, you need to know how to efficiently extract honey from them.

To harvest honey from the bees, first clear the bees out of the honey super. This can be achieved by using one way honey valves which allow bees the move out of the honey super but prevent entry. The one way valves are attached to a clearing board and the board placed under the honey super. After 24 hours, the super will be free of bees.

Honey extraction

The super is then taken to the processing room to extract the honey. The honey is uncapped by cutting off the caps using a knife.

After uncapping, the honey frames are put in a honey extractor and this removes the honey by spinning at a high speed.

The honey is then passed through a course stainless filter, then through a fine stainless filter and finally through a 300 micron cloth filter.

After filtering, the honey is bottled, weighed and labelled.
