Chicken reared on free range system has the highest demand because they are tasty compared to those reared by other systems.
To begin a successful poultry chicken farm, you need enough land that is secured from the neighbourhood/ fenced and should have some shades. Biosecurity on the farm is very important where disinfectant is put at the entrance of the farm and/ or the poultry pen such that anyone entering the farm/ poultry pen disinfects them selves to prevent bringing diseases into the farm.
Other considerations
Prevent run off water from entering the poultry house by either having a drainage channel around the poultry house or raising the entrance of the house by 1 or 2 courses of bricks.
Have litter on the floor where the hens sleep to prevent the birds from getting into contact with their excreta because this exposes them to diseases for example pneumonia when when its cold.
Make a poultry house that is rodent proof following the universal poultry house standards and give the birds ample playing space outside but endeavour to always keep it clean.
Put patches in the compound and also keep feeders and drinkers off the ground to minimize spillage. Control wild birds because they are sources of diseases for example coryza.
Formulate your own feeds to minimise expenses on feeding the birds.
