A goats‘ house can either be a ground house or a raised house.
Raised goats‘ houses are more expensive compared to the ground houses due to the higher amount of wood needed in the construction. Incase a farmer has his own trees and the market price of trees is low, it is better to use them to construct a raised goats‘ house than sell them off cheaply.
Raised house importance
When building a raised goats house, there should be spaces left between the timber making the floor, large enough to allow the dung and urine to pass through to the ground. It is a mistake building a raised house without leaving the spaces in the floor because then the reason for raising the floor will not be achieved.
With a raised goats house, you do not need to clean the goats house every day and also if your workers are not good at cleaning, you are better off building a raised house.
Raised house considerations
When constructing, ensure that the goats have an exercising area.
The goats house is supposed to be 1.5 metres from the ground and the sides sealed off to prevent goats from getting under the house into the dung and urine. With 1.5 metres from the ground, its high enough to allow someone get under and do the cleaning.
In the raised goats house, you can as well partition to have the kids‘ pen and other sections under the same roof. You can as well design it such that goats of different sections share spraying yard without them mixing together.
