Kids are a core pillar in the business of goat faming hence need to be managed well to minimize mortalities.

When kids are produced during the dry season, all other infections are minimal and the major challenge they face are fleas. Presence of fleas can be detected by scratching of the animals. On top of them causing discomfort to animals, they cause animals to swallow in hairs as they scratch them selves and since the hairs are un digestible, they pile up causing a hair ball which becomes a foreign body in the animal‘s body.

Identifying unhealthy kids

Knowing that something is wrong with the kids is by keen observation. Take your time and carefully observe the kids because its is easy to identify unhealthy kids.

Kids having un smooth skin is a sign that something is wrong with the kids.

Care for kids

Lay dry grass on the floor of the kids pen to keep the floor dry. This keeps away disease causing micro organisms like the bacteria because they do not survive in dry areas.

Incase the kids are infected with fleas, spray an insecticide like larva on the floor of the kids pen when the kids are out and spray the kids with detergent or sprinkle them with Dudu dust repeatedly for 2 weeks and fleas will be no more.

Ensure to always spray your kids, let them suckle and do regular health check ups.
