Free range farming is a good project for many farmers, to start a successful free range poultry you need to have enough land.

Secured land should be fenced round and add sheds. At the gate area, add a disinfectant for one to disinfect their feet and legs before entering the shed. This is to protect the chickens against diseases.

Chicken structure

The chicken structure should have a good drainage system incase of heavy rain. Wood chips can be used as beddings for the chickens. This is to help the chickens avoid germs, diseases and also to keep the chicken away from their stool.

The chicken structure should be rodent proof to avoid mangroves and rats sneaking in from outside. Give the birds enough playing ground and maintain good hygiene both in and out side the structure.

Feeding chicken

Avoid putting the feeds inside the structure, chickens should be fed from outside. The chicken should have enough shed, the playground rest place and have Aruta where the chicken can patch. Use a drinker that has a hand on top. A rope is tied on the drinker and hung onto something for water not spill.

The feeder and drinkers should be raised a bit for chickens to feed comfortably. Wild birds should be chased away as they can bring diseases.
