Feed is one of the most important inputs in fish farming and it constitutes a great portion of the budget.
The cost of feed is on the raise day by day and if the feeding is not managed well, farmers make losses and this might prompt then to end up running out of the fish farming business due to the high cost of production caused by the high prices of feed. To manage the feeding, some farmers resort to making their own feed,.

Over feeding consequences

Over feeding leads to feed wastage where even after feeding the fish, some feed remains floating on the waters in the fish pond because the fish would have already gotten satisfied.
The excess floating feed increases the cost of production of the farmer where a huge portion of the budget is spent on feeding even if some of the feed is lost to wastage. This leads to making of losses by the farmer.
Over feeding pollutes the water where the excess feed absorbs water, dissolves in the pond and pollutes the water. The dissolved food also increases turbidity of the water, reducing the amount of oxygen dissolved in the water hence leading to suffocation of the fish.
Incase you notice that you have over fed the fish, you can filter out the excess feed and re use it next feeding time.
