Some trees resprout and grow after they have been cut but often times you might not need them to resprout. A cut stamp herbicide can be used to prevent this.
The cut stamp herbicide treatment is a two step process and the first step involves cutting the tree down. For small stems, you can use a hand saw but for larger stems you will need a chain saw. When using a chain saw, ensure that you are using personal protective equipment and this include a hard hat, ear protection, eye protection, chainsaw chaps, gloves and boots.
Herbicide application
During mixing and application of the herbicide, you will need personal protective equipment and these are; rubber loves, eye protection, long sleeve shirt and pants, gumboots and a sprayer.
After cutting your tree down, you can apply your chemical now but remember to change from chainsaw personal protective equipment to chemical personal protective equipment.
For larger stems, apply the herbicide on the outer rim edge ie on the cambium layer. Rain after 6 or less hours after treatment reduces efficacy of the herbicide.
For small tems, cut the stem using a hand saw and paint the entire top of the stamp using the herbicide.
The cut stamp herbicide treatment method is very effective on large wood stems if the herbicide is applied immediately after cutting at the labelled rate, re sprouting is unlikely.
