The size, nature, stage and weather are the most important factors to consider when transplanting a given crop for high production on the farm. Because not all seeds are transplanted before going out in main garden, time the germination and hardening off schedules for out door planting as most plants germinate in a week. After first set of true leaves at 10-14 days,, a second set of true leaves come up.

Seedling mangement

A farmer should transplant when second set of true leaves come up and new pots used should be 3 times the volume of old ones. When buying soil mix to transplant seedlings, get specific container mix and for own soil mix, mix 50% coconut fibre with 50% compost and add perlite, vermiculite and fill mix into pots and level them and compress them down slightly.
Additionally, presoak soil for 2 hours to determine transplanting success and make holes in pots and plant on a depth according to plant.
Finally, provide enough light to seedlings/ transplants.
