Pest infection on tomatoes especially in rainy season hinders production, hence they need to be well managed.

Most common pests in tomatoes include; tuta absoluta, spider mite and thrips, but they mostly strike in hot seasons and they are very minimal in rainy seasons unless it’s a new variant that comes with the rainy season.

Bollworm

In rainy seasons the most common pest is usually the American bollworm or the African bollworm. In most  it attacks the older fruits from the above creating holes on the fruits and when finished it migrates to the younger fruits. When left alone it can completely destroy the fruits.
The bollworm can be controlled using biological products with an active ingredient of bacillus thuringiensis or synthetic products  cyhalothrin or beta cyfluthrin. Instead of waiting for an attack farmers are advised to spray their plants as a preventive measure of the attack of bollworms, such that incase of an attack your plants are secure and they are not destroyed.
