To maximise soybean yield, proper management practices must be followed during production.

Incase of zero tillage, clear your identified farm site, burn heavy trash where necessary and spray the site with herbicides to kill emerging weeds. For tillage planting, plough the land to get the recommended tilth. Buy the planting seed of improved soybean variety from a reliable seed company.

Planting and management

Plant the soybean at the recommended spacing of 5 to 10 cm within rows and 60cm between rows. The soybean should be planted after a good rain in holes that are 2cm deep and covered slightly with soil.

Weed control is important in growing soybean. The most critical period is between the 15th and 25th day after planting but it is important to keep the field weed free from planting to harvesting. The weeds can be controlled manually or with recommended herbicides.

Harvest the soybean when the leaves are yellow and spread them to dry. After drying, thresh to get the soybean grain.
