»Small hive beetle control and prevention «
Hive beetle can mean to be a nuisance in bee hives and need to be prevented or controlled.
Hive beetles can cause significant damages in the hive for example they can burrow into the honey cells and they eat the stored honey, nectar and pollen. When the hive beetles become numerous, they cam cause the bees to swarm or abscond.
Control mechanisms
Use of non scented swiffer sheets. These catch small hive beetles.
Beetle blusters. These are put in between the frames and they are filled with oils or diatomaceous earth. When the bees chase the hive beetles, they end up into the beetle blusters and die.
You can use bee traps which are baited to attract hive beetles but does not allow the larvae of beetles to exit the hive into the soil where they pupate.
Hive beetle prevention
The beetle buster base board as a slit below the hive that prevents entry of the hive beetles into the hive and incase the beetles enter, the top of the base board has holes through which the beetles fall and end up in the bottom of the board.
The bottom of the board is a tray that has diatomaceous earth and this kills the hive beetles.
