Being a good investment to venture in, the quality and quantity of pig products is determined by the type and level of technology during production.
Farrowing being the period when a sow begins her birthing process to her piglets, it‘s kept in crate for cleaning, disinfecting and avoiding crushing of piglets that might get underneath it. A crate is best for one on one attention given to sow by a farmer.
Pig management
As a crate is made for safety of piglets, it takes 6-8 hours for sow to give birth fully a litre of 6-24 piglets. A crate allows help of sow during farrowing and providing it with 1 metre burlap for enrichment.
Additionally, sow milk being main source of nutrition to piglets, they are weaned at 3 weeks and of ae and introduced to solid feed and water in a nursery room.
Finally, a sow is moved from farrowing crate back to loose sow barn.
