Pigs are highly demanded for their nutritious meat, manure and generates a lot of income thus pig farming business is profitable if they are kept in good conditions.
Additionally, pigs can be kept both in houses and on free range systems. It is highly recommended to vaccinate and feed pigs to attain the best results. For pig proper management always keep them housed.
Animal management
Always separate sows from piglets to avoid over crowding and keep adult male pigs alone to avoid fighting. Furthermore, add smaller water quantity to pig feeds to prevent feed particles from entering pig nostrils. Additionally, provide a water source in pig houses to help them keep their bodies cool. Lastly, keep piglets of the same size together after weaning to avoid bullying. When constructing a pig house it should not face the direct direction of sunlight to prevent animals stress.
Housing considerations
Always keep pigs housed to allow proper feeding, vaccination, disease and theft control. Also ensure regular cleaning of the sty to avoid bad smell. Furthermore, keep the pig house roofed to protect the animals from direct sunshine and heat. Additionally, the sty ground floor should be thick and concrete made to avoid development. Preferably use thatched roofs as these help to keep the sty cool and provide a pig run to allow pigs move out when the sty is very hot.
Housing management
Start by creating sty floor with a drainage channel for proper cleaning. Also seal all cracks in the sty to remove hiding grounds for germs. Spread litter in the sty to ease cleaning as well as building strong sty walls with 1 metre height to prevent pigs from escaping. Ensure proper sty ventilation to allow free air circulation. Lastly, use saw dust or wood shaving beddings to provide warmth to animals.
