Proper preparation of plantlets from cutting is a very easy technique of growing coffee plants from the mother plants with shoot developing from the auxiliary bud.

There are several materials used in preparation of plantlets from cutting and among these include plant cuttings, rooting media, planting pots, soil and white polythene. However it is important to use a white plain sheet under a black net to keep off direct heat and protect plant from sun scorching, usually plants stay in net for 4- 6 months depending on the weather and can be subjected to harsh conditions by introducing them into green net.

Rotting media preparation

This normally requires simple materials like, rotten saw dust and lake sand. These are mixed in the ratio of 2 spades of rotten saw dust with 1 spade lake sand.

Obtaining quality plantlet

Obtain cuttings at pencil size thickness, 2 inch height as too young or over grown cuttings fail to sprout after that reduce leaf sizes and make a clear cut using sharp objects to reduce water loss and avoid damaging the plant respectively furthermore make a hole in the pot and fill it with rooting media after which gently insert the cutting without reaching the ground.

Additionally cover plants with white plain sheet for easy sunlight absorption and proper water conservation however regularly monitor to check and eliminate diseased cuttings and for proper watering in conclusion remove the sheet gradually to subject plants gradually to harsh environmental conditions.
