Management practices
For every 2 months establish and maintain a clear clean circle around the palm tree by removing weeds and shrubs to reduce post harvest losses during and after harvesting. Additionally, prune the palm tree before and after peak harvest by cutting off un wanted branches, this helps to make harvesting easy, less expensive and to reduces crop loss.
Furthermore, arrange a single layer of oil palm composting empty branches around the palm tree to add more soil nutrients and control soil erosion thus conserving soil water. Also, every 2-3 months create clear pathways in oil palm fields and between oil palm trees to ease accessibility into the farm land, harvesting, farm management and fertilizer application.
Always ensure using the box frond stacking method during pruning to add soil nutrients and control soil erosion and lastly, apply fertilizers within the created clear path circles around the tree to facilitate proper growth of the tree.
