Causes and treatment
There are various causes of the disease and among these include respiratory illnesses which lower oxygen supply as well as deficiency of minerals and vitamins which cause imbalances of macronutrients in the body of the birds hence causing the disease. Additionally, water belly disease is also caused by the accumulation of toxins as well as rearing birds in high-altitude areas. When treating affected birds, mix 10 MLS of oregano oil in chicken drinking water. Also, add flax oil to broiler feeds at a rate of 50 grams per kilo of feeds.
Prevention measures
First, shift birds to low-altitude areas for an adequate supply of oxygen. Additionally, restrict feeding birds to allow proper oxygen supply in the chicken muscles and tissues this can be done by feeding birds to the maximum during the first week and thereafter only feeding birds for only 8 hours per day. Furthermore, ensure proper ventilation to allow free air circulation. Lastly, also, ensure proper ventilation of the chicken house as well as maintain proper brooding temperature to avoid stress in birds.
