Millet is a highly nutritious crop grown for both human food and animal fodder. Additionally, millet can withstand dry climatic conditions. Additionally there are different varieties of millet. Furthermore, millet require warm climate for both seed germination and plant development. Millet seeds can also withstand drought. It is highly recommended to constantly monitor millet fields so as to chase birds since it is the major pests to millet farming.

Growing millet

Start by selecting well drained loamy fertile soils and treat seeds with fungicide before planting. Additionally, prepare the seedbed well, control weeds well before planting and plant at correct seed rate. Furthermore, ensure planting seeds at 1 inch depth. Also after seed germination thin, control weeds and apply fertilizers with low nitrogen. Additionally, ensure timely control of diseases correctly and harvest when seeds and panicles are mature. Lastly, properly dry harvested millet seeds off the bare ground before storage.
