Due to flooding of onions in markets farmers earn less however by producing when there is scarcity at market, proper storage and by selling directly to clients increases income to farmers.
Onions can be grown on small piece of land during dry season as it requires less water. Produce when there are only a few onions in the market and know the onions available and what the market wants as this helps to properly plan when to grow and earn the best price and also break the disease cycle. Raise the onion beds and proper spacing this helps to keep plants healthy and use the best performing varieties with strong leaves during rainy season to reduce on disease attack.
Right storage
As different varieties differ in storage, try new varieties to find the best variety to grow usually varieties which take long to mature have longer storage time. Store onions in a well ventilated cool place to prevent rotting for a few months and sell when prices are high. Dry the leaves to have a small neck to prevent germs from entering and lastly transport onions to clients directly for more profits as this reduces theft from middle men.
