To make a fermented organic fertilizer, you need molasses, effective microorganisms, and water but the water needs to be pure and free from chlorine because chlorine kills the microorganisms. Among the main solid ingredients that would feed the microbes include bran, soybean meal, and chicken manure.
Mixing the ingredients
Measure 10 kg of bran and put it in a mixing container, add 5 kg of the soybean meal and 5 kg of the chicken manure.
Add water at 2% of the dry ingredients and this translates to 2 liters of water. To the water is added 20g of molasses and 20g of the effective microbes and dissolved.
Thoroughly mix the dry ingredients and after mixing, add the liquid components and mix very well.
Depending on the dry ingredients that you used, you may need to add some water to achieve the intended moisture content. The right moisture content is achieved when a ball can be made by squeezing a mixture of the ingredients in the palm but the ball crumbles when little pressure is added.
Fermenting the ingredients
Put the ingredients into a container whose inside is lined with polythene and squeeze to compact the mixture so as to eliminate any air.
After putting the ingredients, fasten the polythene to make it airtight and cover the bucket with a lid.
Put the container out of reach of rain and sunlight.
The fertilizer will be ready in between 5 to 7 days and can be used directly by mixing it in the soil or used as an inoculant in making compost.
