The health factor of the animal determines the quality and quantity of the the products produced and this affects the animal sector.
Restraining of the animal before administering the vaccine is good for the protection, safety of the human being and wellbeing of the animal as well. If revaccination is required, follow labelled instructions for timing and frequency.
Vaccine administration
First restrain the animal and locate the injection site however the injection triangle in the neck is the most preferred which is located below the nuchal ligament that rounds on top of spine below the neck vertebrae and in front of the shoulder blade. Store bottles and syringes in cooler places , block sunlight and protect vaccines from extreme temperatures. Make sure to avoid jugular vein and suprascapular lymph node.
Similarly gently roll the bottle back and forth to mix the content of the vaccine and dont shake it vigorously as this may damage the components of the vaccine. Always read product label to determine proper dose however for triangle, the dose and mode of administration vary by product.
For multi dose syringe usage, set correct dose. Use a new sterile needle to draw vaccine from bottle and a needle that has been used in an animals can contaminate the entire content of the vaccine in the bottle. Choose the right needle basing on the mode of administration and weight of the animal and after, hold the syringe in the other hand and insert the needle at the centre of rubber stopper.
Additionally adjust the hand by holding both syringe and bottle in one hand and use the free hand to draw desired dose of vaccine into syringe. Continue by removing needle from the bottle and while pointing up tip, release some vaccines to eliminate any air in the syringe or needle for accurate dosing. Make sure the injection site is clean, dry and free of debris and use correct mode of administration as listed on the vaccine label.
For subcutaneous injection, pull the skin of the animal‘s neck out to create tent and insert the needle at the base of the tent, deliver vaccine, remove needle and release the skin. For intramuscular injection, hold syringe perpendicular to the skin, advance needle into muscle, deliver vaccine content and withdraw the needle..
Finally change needles often and properly dispose off bent and damaged needles.
