Pests are one of the hindrances to agricultural production and productivity but these can be controlled using organic pesticides.

Organic pesticides are made from locally available materials
hence being cost-effective. Crops are food to pests and pests damage crops
either by sucking, chewing, or biting. To make organic pesticides, you need aloe vera, red pepper, onions or onion leaves, neem leaves, and marigold leaves.

Pesticide raw materials

Aloe vera is both a fertilizer and a pesticide. As a
fertilizer, it has potassium, Magnesium and as a pesticide, it is used in
controlling caterpillars, beetles, aphids, etc.

Pound the ingredients. For chili pepper, you need to pound
one cup of chili per 5 liters of water. Chilli pepper has an active ingredient
that helps in controlling aphids, caterpillars, ants, and beetles.

For marigold leaves, 5 cups of marigolds are pounded and put in a
container. The marigold is effective on caterpillars and cutworms.

Neem leaves are used to control fungal diseases and
banana weevils. Tomato leaves can also be used and these help in controlling
cutworms and caterpillars.

Onion bulbs or leaves act as repellants and they control
both the white and black ants. They can also control armyworms and cutworms.

Processing pesticide

Mix all the ingredients and pound at once or you can pound the
ingredients separately.

Then after pounding, put the materials in a drum and add
water.

Keep the concoction for 3 days and after, you sieve. This filtrate gives a contact pesticide.

The only challenge with organic pesticides Is that you can’t
tell the amount of a specific active ingredient in a given ingredient.
