As a medium of crop growth, soil can be improved by providing proper treatment and management by the farmer in relation to the crops to be grown. Being a backbone of soil that make plants healthy, compost is made in a square metre container and 2-3 containers are needed to change decomposing compost and compost requirements include nitrogen, carbon and additives. a farmer shouid use 30 carbon to 1 nitrogen ratio.

Compost management

First, nitrogen is got from fresh cut grasses, vegetable waste, carbon is from dry straws, stalks and additives are gotten from weeds. Aerate soil under neath compost pit using folk hoe and put a layer of carbon first, followed by nitrogen source, egg cartons full of carbon and add biomass as well a layer of activators such as weeds, volcanic rock dust, sea weed and add soil from garden and compost from previous compost pit.
Similarly, repeat the process until the pit is full and finally water and cover with tarpaulin for the next 48 hours to rise temperatures to 70% inside compost and in a week, it should be broken down by half and by a third in 2 weeks.
Finally, turn compost once after a period and should be ready  to use in 3 weeks.
