Being highly nutritious crop rich in carbohydrates, potatoe growing and production can be praticed using simple affordable technology by the farmer. As part of solanum family with crops like pepper and chillis, plant potatoes at optimum time for organic gardening and they can eqaully be grown in pots. Put potting mix in pots, put potatoes in it and cover them with more potting mix on top and add rock dust on top after planting.

Potato management

For open field home garden, make deep trenches of 1 metre apart as the deeper the trenches, the more potatoes obtained. Plant potatoes 20-30cm apart with eyes up, add neem tree granules to the potato trenches to protect potatoes and cover 2 inches on trench from bottom and add rock dust to keep the plants strong.
Finally, when new shoots emerge, add compostand cover.
