Guavas are self pollinated fruits grown from seed or cuttings with different varieties, flavours and appearance. Additionally, grafted guava seedlings grow and bear fruits fast within 5-6 months. Usually guava plants mature 2-4 months after bloom and mature guava fruits change colour and texture. Furthermore, guava trees absorb nutrients rapidly from soil due to their shallow roots. Also to attain high yields from guavas grown in pots it is advisable to use big and large container with good water drainage.

Growing guava trees

Start by filling 60-70% of soil mix in the container. The soil mixture should be containing 20% river sand, 30% manure and 50% soil. Ensure to use big and wide containers with drainage holes. After filling soil in containers press gently to remove air and water immediately. Lastly, expose seedlings to 6-7 hours of sun daily.

Management practices

Apply organic fertilizers every 25-35 days, mix with soil and water immediately. Also ensure to water plants when the soil is dry. Additionally, apply fertilizers to plants, water immediately and wrap fruits to avoid predators. Furthermore, water regularly and carefully harvest in time and store harvested fruits in fridge. Lastly, replace old trees after 2 years, prune roots and replace soil potting mix.
