Though chicken provide meat, eggs, income and manure to farmers they are prone to disease. However, Newcastle disease is the biggest killer of chicken.
Once disease strike, there is no treatment and kills the entire flock. The disease affects the brain and breathing system of chicken and once affected the neck is twisted and wings are paralysed. The disease is spread by virus sick chicken and people.
Disease management
Because Newcastle is only prevented and not cured, prevention is done by keeping chicken away from others and vaccination where the vaccine‘s effectiveness begins a week after vaccination. In this follow manufacturer‘s instructions on how to administer drug. When using vaccine, store between 2 and 8 degrees centigrade and when transporting to field, carry with ice inside container to keep it cool.
Similarly, check instructions on vaccine bottle and for La Sota vaccine usage, thirst chicken first by removing all water containers and if possible give them dry feed. For better vaccine absorption add a tale soup skimmed milk powder into five litres of water. Dilute vaccine according to instructions on bottom and in this, open vaccine bottle under water.
Divide medicated water into different containers and place in the areas. All diluted vaccines should be given to birds in two hours . However for 1-2 vaccine put one drop into eye of chicken and during hot days administer during morning or in shaded area. Pour remaining vaccines in latrine, wash and clean utensils after vaccination. Vaccinate for every four months and at prevention of the disease always.
Finally remove sick birds and keep remaining inside to prevent them from mixing .
