Like other crops, the production of peas is determined by the method of growing applied and the level of technology used on the farm. Being sold as early varieties ready to pick as soon as 3 months from sowing, peas varieties are edible pods, thin walled pods and sugar snap peas. Peas grow up to 90cm tall and climbing peas go up to 2m height and a farmer need to fill trays with potting mix.

Crop management

First, make holes, drop 2 seeds per cell, cover them and water to soak the mix through however, seeds can be directly seeded in the main garden and they need to be well drained fertile soils. Dig a trench of 5cm deep and insert seeds at 5-7cm apart.
Similarly, cover seeds and water them as peas are cold tolerant plants and are planted in a simple or double row for light to reach all the plants. Sow seeds early of season and stake them and keep soil moist to support growing of peas and harvest when you feel peas in pods.
Pick peas regularly for more fruits to grow and finally remove seeds from pods, blunch them for 1 minutes and dry seds and freeze in airtight bags.
