»Learn how to bud graft citrus fruit trees successfully. I have found that chip budding of citrus gives a high success rate and is more versatile than citrus T-budding. Unlike the T-bud, the chip bud can be used even when the bark of the rootstock is not slipping. The chip bud is useful for grafting orange trees, grafting lemon trees, or any other kind of citrus fruit including mandarins, limes, grapefruit, pummelos, or kumquats.«

As far as grafting is concerned, citrus grafting improves on the quality and quality of the yield which fetches high prices in the market. Grafting method is determined by stage of the scion and rootstock and season as well.

To begin with, use disease free budwood for grafting citrus by aligning the cambium of the chip bud with the other of rootstock for successful grafting.

Material preparation

First, sterilise the equipments before use to prevent disease spread and prepare a place on rootstock for inserting the chip bud using knife. Cut the chip from scion and insert it in the prepared root stock and wrap the graft with para film and record the grafting day.

Later on unwrap the bud after 3-4 weeks and cut off rootstock half way above the graft. After few weeks of significant growth of bud, cut off the top of root stock and finally remove small branches originating from root stock and stake the tree.
