A feedlot contains many components which include the spraying area, restraining area and the feedlot area.

The feedlot can be simple made using locally available materials. In a feedlot system, animals are overfed to attain their maximum body weight. A feedlot contains an entrance which leads to the collecting yard and the collecting yard connects to the restraining crush which leads to the weighing scale.

Handling of stock

After weighing the animals, they are distributed depending on their weight. For ease of carrying out activities and management, all the components of the feedlot are interconnected. In the feedlot area are feeding troughs, water troughs and a resting area.

While in the feedlot, animals can be fed on silage made of maize, sugar grains (sorghum) and molasses. The sugar grains have a lot of protein and help in building of muscles while the maize is rich is energy and supplies energy to the animals.
