Implementing and following a clear biosecurity programme prevents introduction of diseases on the farm from both humans and animals

Additionally, bio security is essential for the bird welfare and key to prevent disease organisms from being introduced into a poultry flock. Furthermore, good bio security begins at the building planing stages.

Biosecurity measures

Always locate farm away from other livestock houses and instal a perimeter fence around the farm to help control unwanted visitors. Also put signs on farm in visible areas to indicate restricted areas and to provide clear instructions to farm workers. Additionally, gazette an area 50 feet around poultry house with good drainage and clear vegetation to reduce the risk of infection and build up of insects respectively.

Disease management

Establish a proof pest management programme and also farm design should prevent wild animals and birds from accessing the flock to prevent animal transmitted diseases. Establish and regularly maintain, monitor rodent baits. Also there should be one farm entrance to help in flow and direction of people.
