There are 38 breeds and 19 strains of domestic rabbits throughout the world recognized by American Rabbit Breeder Association.
New Zealand White is one of the best meat breed. It is medium sized, has three varieties, that is White, Black and Red. Adult buck and doe weighs 3.7 to 4 kg and 4 to 4.2 kg respectively. Soviet Chinchilla has a compact, coby medium body and breed for meat. It has one variety that is grey. Adult buck and doe weighs 2.5 to 3.5 kg and 3.0 to 3.6 kg respectively.
Flemish giant and Satin
Flemish Giant is the largest of the domestic breeds and has a well proportioned and balanced body. It is meat type breed and has seven varieties: Steel grey, Black grey, Sandy, Black, Blue, White and Fawn. Adult buck and doe weigh 5.0 kg and 5.4 kg respectively.
Satin is meat breed with six varieties, that is Black, Blue, Chocolate, Copper, Red Siamese and White. Adult buck and doe weighs 3.5 to 4.0 kg and 4.0 to 4.5 kg respectively.
Californian white and Rex
Californian White is a meat type rabbit. Adult buck and doe weighs 3.6 to 4.5 and 3.9 to 4.8 kg respectively. The colour is all white with black, chocolate, blue or lilac nose, ears, feet, and tail.
Rex is most valuable for its fur producing breed. It has seven varieties, that is Black, Blue, Tan, Chocolate, Orange, Grey, Pale grey. Adult buck and doe weighs 3.2 and 3.6 kg respectively.
Himalayan, British and French angora
Himalayan is a small fancy rabbit and has two varieties, Albino with extremities black and blue. Adult buck and doe weigh 1.1 to 1.6 kg and 1.5 to 2.0 kg respectively.
British Angora is a wool breed. It has a much fine coat. It has two varieties, that is White and coloured. Adult buck and doe weighs 2.4 to 3.4 kg and 2.5 to 3.6 kg respectively.
French Angora has longer and narrower head and a large body than British Angora. It is wool breed. It has two varieties, that is White and coloured. Adult buck and doe weighs 3.0 and 3.2 kg respectively.
