Advantages of Hydroponics

Hydroponics offers several advantages, such as saving on land space required for capsicum cultivation, efficient water usage due to recycling systems, and nutrient recycling. Additionally, labor is reduced as there is no need for weeding in hydroponics, and pest and disease control is significantly improved, reducing the need for chemical treatments. Crop rotation is also unnecessary.

Choosing  colored capsicums

The choice to grow colored capsicums is based on their higher market value compared to other common vegetables suitable for trough systems. Capsicums command a higher price per kilogram and are energy-efficient to maintain.

Capsicums have distinct advantages over conventional produce, including better quality and a longer shelf life. This is attributed to hydroponics, which provides capsicums with the necessary nutrients for robust growth, resulting in more flavorful and durable fruits. To enhance shelf life further, wrapping capsicums in cling film paper helps retain moisture, preventing wrinkling.

Grandeur Africa supports farmers by assisting with market access and providing value addition training. This empowers farmers to generate additional revenue from grade three tomatoes or capsicums that may not make it to the standard market. Value-added products also enjoy extended shelf life and higher market value.

Red capsicums can be used to make pasta sauce, barbecue sauce, meatball sauces, and other culinary creations. Yellow capsicums can be canned or processed into powder, while tomatoes can be used to make canned sauces.

Sequence from Sequence to Description
00:0001:30we monitor the growth of capsicums from transplanting to the flowering stage and now to the maturity stage where we harvest, grade and pack them ready for delivery.
01:3103:01The reason we are growing colored capsicums is because of their value compared to other common vegetables that can be grown in this trough system.
03:0204:32capsicums have a better quality and longer shelf life compared to conventional produce This is true because, by using hydroponics, our capsicums have access to all the nutrients they need when growing and use the majority of their energy to make more and tastier fruits.
04:3306:03The reason we wrap is to ensure that the skin does not lose moisture. If the skin loses moisture, it becomes wrinkled.
06:0407:34we also offer value addition training This is to give our farmers more and better ways to earn extra revenue for some of the grade three tomatoes or capsicums that do not make it to the market Remember, value-added products have a longer shelf life and fetch a higher value in the market
