Yams are propagated through tissue this saves farmers from moving long distances to look for yam planting materials.
The whole process requires simple materials such as healthy yam tubers, knife and wood ash. One yam tuber can be used to produce many yam planting materials through yam macro propagation and the technique requires simple steps. Additionally, during yam sterilization for efficient and proper sterilization cover and keep yams in the sterilizer for 30 minutes.

Propagation procedure

Start by cutting yams tubers into 6cm pieces without peeling to avoid damaging the yam growing tissues. Thereafter divide the yam cut pieces it into 2- 3 pieces and sterilize them with ash to kill the disease causing germs. Furthermore, prepare the growth substrate for yams and after 30 minutes sow the sterilized yam cuttings in prepared bed and lightly cover. Lastly, water the sowed yam cuttings and monitor growth.
