Being a profitable form of farming, the quality and quantity of agroforestry products highly depend on the production technology.

Silvo arable agro forestry system involves a combination of trees and crops with in the same field and it is typically lines of trees between crops to maintain possibility of mechanised cultivation of crop which is usually called alley cropping.

Silvoarable management

As designing the system require to consider factors such as spacing of tree rows usually at 10 – 40 metres and 4 – 10 metres in a row, type of tree, orientation of planting and type of crop chosen. When minimizing competition, consider crops that do not need pesticides that damage trees, keep light competition low by pruning trees regularly to minimise light competition.

Similarly, prune trees to maximize space for mechanisation machinery and consider the type of trees suitable for the land to maximise tree value.

Finally, trees must be protected by shelters.
