Biosecurity measures
Always locate farm away from other livestock houses and instal a perimeter fence around the farm to help control unwanted visitors. Also put signs on farm in visible areas to indicate restricted areas and to provide clear instructions to farm workers. Additionally, gazette an area 50 feet around poultry house with good drainage and clear vegetation to reduce the risk of infection and build up of insects respectively.
Disease management
Establish a proof pest management programme and also farm design should prevent wild animals and birds from accessing the flock to prevent animal transmitted diseases. Establish and regularly maintain, monitor rodent baits. Also there should be one farm entrance to help in flow and direction of people. Furthermore, farm visitors must follow biosecurity measures with their properties fumigated to prevent disease transmission.
Visitors rules
Visitor should sign with information about previously visited farms and always limit the number of farm visitors and all workers. Ensure that all visitors shower wear new clothes before accessing the flock. Dis infect and hand sanitize when entering poultry house and maintain water quality. Additionally Keep feeds in well maintained storage facilities and clean spillages to avoid attracting rodents and birds.
Lastly dispose of dead birds properly, clean and disinfect poultry houses to remove pathogens and avoid contamination.
