Emu birds are from the group of ratile family of flightless birds along with ostrich, kiwi among others.

Emus have adapted to a variety of conditions ranging from excessive cold to the extreme heat, therefore they can be raised anywhere in the world. Usually emus live up to the age of 30 years. The emu is considered as a friendly bird and can easily live in grassy plains and dry open farms. Emus grow from 5 to 6 feet in height and weigh between 45 to 60 kg. Female Emus are capable of reproduction for at least 25 years of age. Emu is a bird that survives in all climates.

Emu farming seems to have a lot of untapped potential in terms of the commercial value and gross yearly profit. Emu farming commercial value is increased by emu oil, emu boots and emu meat.

Emu oil can be marketed as a good skin care product. It has anti aging effect and it is good remedy for dry skin problem. It is also known for good healing and anti inflammatory properties. It has been effective in lessening the visual impact of stretch marks and scars on the skin.

Emu eggs and chicks

Emu eggs are dark green in colour. Eggs are 10- 12 times bigger than the egg of an hen. Female emu may lay eggs after every 3-5 days. Emu has a long life, even lives up to maximum of 40 years.

An emu grown up with great care and healthy is capable of reproduction for at least 25 years. They produce 30 young ones per year. Hence, if a farmer keeps these birds and takes good care of them they will give him healthy financial returns in form of eggs and chicks for 25-27 years of age.

Emu meat

After emu stops reproducing, it has a minimum of 50 kg weight. You have the 50 kg bird to sell for various products like meat, oil and skin and still make more for the farmer.

Emu meat has equal benefits too. It‘s red meat has a 98% fat free, rich in proteins and iron has been considered worthy substitute of beef by many health countries meat lovers around the world.
