»The guinea fowl are poultry birds originating from Africa. Many poultry farmers in Africa are doing Guinea Fowl farming business successfully, mainly for making profits.«

Guinea farming is a very simple farming business and highly advantageous. However ensure not to confine guineas with chickens for proper feeding.

Guinea fowls can fly 400 – 500ft at a time and their eggs take 26-28 days to hatch, each bid required 2-3 sq ft. Usually males guinea birds are differentiated by presence of larger wattles and a narrow opening between their pelvic bone. It is recommended to confine female guineas in house for full day so that they get used to their laying boxes.

Guinea advantages

They act as farm alarm incase of a problem thus boosting security. Furthermore they control farm pests and rodents.

Additionally, guinea birds are easy to raise since they require less housing facilities, strong and hardy, need less space and resistant to diseases.

Also the guinea fowls are easy to feed, provide employment opportunities and have ready market.

Practices to start

Ensure to check local regulations to make sure that raising guinea fowls is permitted in the area.

Also select a good location with good facilities such as calmness, pollution free with good supply of clean fresh water electricity and transport.

Additionally, provide birds with shelter with its floor covered with an absorbing bedding material.

Always provide covers on shelters to prevent the birds from getting lost since they can easily fly.

Provide laying boxes and purchase high guinea breeds from reliable sources.

After, confine birds for 1-2 weeks and these should be let out one at a time to avoid them from getting lost. Furthermore, ensure to feed birds on quality poultry feeds especially proteins.

Ensure regular removal of food left overs to prevent a mould problem and keep a good ratio of male and females for proper breeding.

Hatch abandoned eggs with incubator, care for newly hatched fowls and ensure disease control.
