Special care and attention should be given to kids and pregnant goats in goat farming.
Natural synchronization does not involve use of artificial hormones but the male is removed from the flock for 3 months. The females keep coming on heat but miss to be served and when introduced, many females will come on heat and be served in a given period of time.
Pregnant goats
When goats are about to produce, separate them them from the rest of the flock and keep them in their pen alone.
Give supplementary feeds to pregnant goats in addition to grazing to allow them produce strong and healthy kids.
Caring for kids
In natural synchronization, breeding takes place in 3 months and kidding also takes place in 3 months time. This helps to have a number of animals growing up together and this makes it easier to care for the kids.
First kidders usually have irrigation and fear to be suckled. Incase this happens, hold the goat and ensure that the kids suckle until the goat gets used to being suckled after some time.
Cows‘ milk can be used as a supplement to kids that do not get enough milk from their mothers. This helps in having a proper growth rate of the animals.
When kids grow to about 3 months, transfer them to the kids pen.
